On returning home from captivity as a prisoner of war in 1945, the master tailor Willi Schmidt and his wife Annemarie founded the garment factory Mantel-Schmidt in Uetersen near Hamburg. Even at that time, the main emphasis was on individually fitted models faithful to tradition. As a true patriot, the master focused his attention from the start on classical North-German weatherproof clothing, which was originally produced from tent canvas!
After the monetary reform, Willi Schmidt exploited the favorable economic conditions of the post-war period, producing fitted garments for the whole family and selling these to Hamburg residents. In time, the company evolved to become a leading producer for the expanding niche market.
In 1998, Annemarie Schmidt, who had reached the age of 83, placed the company in the hands of Bernd Einsel, a textile designer of international standing. The task of fusing tradition with contemporary styles proved to be a major challenge.
Our internet shop (www.pearl-oneel.com) was established at the beginning of 2003. Today, two-thirds of our turnover are generated via e-commerce
In addition to our established product range, we own several revolutionary patents, with which we hope to capture further niche markets in the future. The combination of tradition with innovative modernity has proved to be a winning strategy, enabling us to hold our own in a highly competitive market.
